About California Proposition 65
The California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 commonly known as Proposition 65 entitles California consumers to special warnings for products that contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm if those products expose consumers to such chemicals above certain threshold levels. This list is published by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA); it is updated annually and currently lists in more than 800 substances.
Proposition 65 requires that anyone at risk of exposure be notified when listed substances are present above certain specified levels. This should enable California residents to make informed decisions concerning the substances and products they might purchase.
